The ONE Petition
ONE in Christ calls upon the delegates to the special constituency session, voted by the Pacific Union Conference Executive Committee on May 9, 2012 and tentatively scheduled for August 19, 2012, to take actions that will result in authorizing the ordination of pastors without regard to gender.
ONE in Christ invites you to sign the following petition to the PUCon constituency session delegates, indicating your support of our call for the above-stated action. We urge you to do this, even if you attend an Adventist church outside the PUCon. Your solidarity with us is significant and your support will be important as this campaign expands to other jurisdictions and levels of the Church.

It is time for some men to stop playing God and time for the church to stop enabling them to play God. It is not God who is created in the image of man, rather it is the human (FEMALE as well as male) that are created in the divine image. Those who continue to play God and those who enable them, your tenure is about to expire in the great scheme of heilsgeschichte.Anonymous

I graduated in 1978 from LLU (now LSU), and the first call to a female pastor was made to Jan Eisemann Daffern, as far as I know, within the traditional call process. The Central California Conference Committee then rescinded the call. But by the 1980s this should have become a normal, and equal call and ordaination process. I understand that the trend towards denominations having a larger third-world influence has slowed the gospel's impact on social justice in the church and its ministries, but some things should wait no longer!Kevin Trenchard

As the GC has just launched the 5th study of women's ordination since 1881, I find it rather ironic that we have been studying this issue without settling it for 130 years while the U.S. Government took less than 50 years to settle women's suffrrage (1870-1920). I am encouraged, however, that the "numbers are on our side" since the 1990 GC vote on the issue was a ratio of 3:1 agains; the 1995 ratio was 2:1 against; and the recent 2011 Fall Council vote was approximately 3:2 against. It's coming soon--hopefully before the Second Coming!Vanessa Barragan

This has been too long in coming! We have a female founder of our church, and there is no Biblical basis for the continued sexism and discrimination that the church which claims to have the most truth perpetrates against women! Jesus had female disciples, and came to tear down the sexism that has been prevalent from the beginning of time. It is time for this church body to embrace the Bible, and to treat all in equality! There is no Jew or Greek, no male or female, in Christ Jesus!Hugo Meier

I was a theology major, and even did multiple years of youth ministry internships. I wanted to be a youth pastor. I could not hold the esteem of an ordained minister because of my gender, even if I did get a masters in divinity. I am pleased to see that the official state of inequality between men and women held by our church is being challanged. I have been embarrassed and appalled that such a politically incorrect view, which is just as shameful as racism, is still being upheld by the Seventh-day Adventist leadership. I love my church and do not desire dissention, but this injustice should not be tolerated. I truly beleive if there were a vote of North American Division membership, this official policy would be altered.Jairo Sánchez

Now is the time. Basically 50% of all young attorneys, physicians, dentists, and pharmacists that graduate from Loma Linda University are women. Denominational policy, up till now, bars women from serving with full authorization as a gospel minister. This is tragic. It turns off the church's youth, and their is a massive dropout rate. Ordination of women is not a panacea. But it is a first step. And most important, IT IS RIGHT.Anonymous
